What’s in a name?

“Dr Rodney Shainbom Inc” and “Dentistry – on – Bellevue”

Two names, the original and the new.

These are exciting times. Change is happening in the office. Since August of 2007 we have been in the process of relocating the office. After what seems to have been an eternity, things are beginning to happen and the time is now right to let you know.

“Dr Rodney Shainbom Inc” will be relocating in the spring to the shopping village of Ambleside in West Vancouver, and will be trading under the name of “Dentistry-on-Bellevue”.

Many of you who have been long time patients of the office, who knew and were treated by Dr Higa, are no doubt aware of the extensive redevelopment that has taken place along and around our section of Clyde Avenue.

Many of you will remember the quaint Park Royal Hotel at the end of the road adjacent to the river. Many of us have fond memories of the old Tudor style Hotel. Well the hotel has given way to a large condo development,

and across the way a seniors residential facility has replaced the old buildings that had their own histories.

Change is inevitable, and in line with all this, we are well aware of the timeline that will eventually lead to the redevelopment of the site that we are located on. It is not difficult to have noticed that our building is looking somewhat run down and that the equipment and interior of the office is looking tired.

Our new home, a totally new development in a storefront location is situated at 1507 Bellevue Avenue in Ambleside, just off the corner at 15th Street and below “Saltaire Restaurant”. It is a really pretty location, opposite the Millennium Clock and the Argyle sea walk and is situated amongst some of the finest shopping that Ambleside has to offer.

Our brand new office will feature all new equipment and the latest technology including Digital Xrays and Digital Panoramic Radiography. New patient chairs designed with the comfort of the patient in mind and handpieces designed to allow for noise and vibration reduction will increase patient comfort whilst being worked on. New imaging software will allow for better diagnostic and communicative tools, so that you, the patient, will benefit even more. We will also be extending our office hours to include some evenings, as well as Fridays and Saturdays.

We have been sharing our excitement with patients who have been in the office recently, and we have certainly received very positive feedback. We hope that you will be as excited about our new venture as we are. We know that we will be able to provide you with more comfort, better service and an improved quality of care. You might ask “how much extra is this going to cost me?” We are proud to be able to offer all this at no increase in our fees. We have just recently upgraded our administrative software, and we will continue to process your accounts in the same way. We will continue to accept assignment from your dental plan as we currently do.

Some of the new technology we are introducing, include:

Digital Xrays:

• Replaces the use of film and chemicals and has minimal environmental impact.
• Digital imaging incorporates computer technology in the capture, display, enhancement, and storage of direct radiographic images.
• Uses 90% less radiation than regular x ray film.
• Allows for much clearer and better diagnostics.
• Is a greater educational tool in making patients more aware of problems.
• Results are instant allowing for less waiting time for patients.

Digital Panoramic Xrays:

• A panoramic x-ray is an image of top and bottom jaws including the joints and base of the skull
• An excellent picture for revealing and confirming pathology of the jaws, unerupted teeth and eruptive patterns in young individuals.
• Useful in certain situations for diagnosing tooth problems.

Patient comfort:

• Latest designs in operatory equipment will allow for patient comfort, less noise, entertainment and involvement in diagnostics and decisions in treatment proposals.
